Mia Hamilton

Mia is a current sophomore at Menlo School who was inspired to join Curieus out of her passion for STEM subjects and learning. She finds it particularly frustrating that the Silicon Valley community places a heavy emphasis on STEM subjects, yet still excludes such large parts of communities throughout the Bay Area. She believes Curieus is doing important work to redefine the culture around STEM so that it is no longer inherently only for the “smartest” or the “best” students-- everyone deserves the access to the joy and magic of science in an encouraging learning environment. Mia loves brainstorming new experiments for future workshops and takes inspiration from her Neuroscience and Honors Chemistry classes she takes at school.

Outside of the classroom, Mia enjoys singing, both in choral and solo settings. She enjoys touring internationally with her choir, iSing Silicon Valley Girlchoir, a recipient of the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award, as well as the 2018 Robert Schumann International Choir Competition Grand Prize. As a soloist, she has collaborated with various ensembles and artists including The Carmel Bach Festival, Meredith Monk, and Barbara Bonnie. Besides music, Mia loves to read; some of her favorites include For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Catcher in the Rye, and The Jazz of Physics.
